The Tale Behind A Tale Of Two Cities

A Tale of Two Cities, the musical set against the classic background of the French Revolution and based on Charles Dickens novel, narrates a story of vengeance, injustice and the liberating power of love. Dr. Manette is being released from the French Bastille after seventeen long years. Being on the brink of insanity, Manette is resurrected by his daughter, Lucie. They travel to England where they meet two men who are very different in character, Charles Darnay, the French aristocrat in exile who Lucie finally marries and the cynical drunk, Sydney Carton. Before long, political intrigue and family secrets lure Lucie and her family back to Paris. At the height of the reign of terror, Carton turns out to be an unexpected hero.
